2000 Summer Students | ||
The NIH Summer Internship Program provides students in high school, college and graduate school an opportunity to participate in biomedical research in the intramural laboratories at the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH. Through this program, students work side-by-side with leading scientists and researchers. In addition to the laboratory experience, participants also have an opportunity to attend a summer seminar series where senior NIH investigators discuss the latest developments in biomedical research. The goal of the program is to expose students to research procedures in a unique environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research and training. To be eligible for this program, students must be currently enrolled full time in high school, college or graduate school. Candidates must be either citizens of the United States or permanent residents. High school students must be at least 16 years of age. Graduating seniors must provide evidence that they have been accepted to an accredited institution at the next educational level, (e.g. acceptance letter to college, graduate school or medical school). Students may be supported under a variety of employment mechanisms that are available at the NIH. Stipends are based on each students educational level. Monthly stipends prior to deductions range from $1,000 to $1,600. Students are responsible for their own travel expenses and housing arrangements. Questions should be directed to:
